So, Saturday, I was at the American Library Association annual convention, doing some book pimping.
First, I was at the MWA/Sisters in Crime booth, where I signed business cards (sadly, my book weren't there). I got a chance to catch up with Margery Flax (MWA office mom), Laura Durham and Alexandra Sokoloff.
Afterwards, I went to the Wildside Press booth, where I spent a lovely couple of hours with my editor, Paula Guran, chief editorial guru Sean Wallace and Mr. Wildside himself, John Betancourt.
They had a few copies of my book, one of which I signed and gave to a lovely librarian from Lee High School in San Antonio.
Sean (
oldcharliebrown on LJ) took several photos and you can find them here. Scroll down for a photo of me holding my book...or click here.
Small world syndrome set in about 4:00 or so. I noticed a woman browsing the IDW booth next to us and knew immediately, I recognized her from somewhere. She stepped over to our booth and immediately said the same thing. In about 10 seconds, she exclaimed, "Muskrat Jamboree!" Yep, fangrrls be EVERYwhere! We exchanged LJ names (and I *think* she said
wildgreentide - but my brain, she is dead, so I hope I got that right). In any case, how cool it was to connect with a fellow MJ attendee.
Dad continues to make progress. He's a bit peeved that he can't go home yet, but the docs are happy with what's been happening, so it's mostly just him.
Tonight, I got to chat with my cousin, ME - not M'e as in
allaboutm_e, but my Cuban-born blood cousin, Maria Eugenia. She lives in Miami (is much younger than I am) and is in DC for a quick visit to the Cuban Consulate to check on her new passport, which is over a month late. (!) Since her job involves a lot of international travel, she absolutely must have it. She was hoping to hook up with me tonight for dinner, but I didn't get the voice mail until 7:00, because I was still at work and in a meeting (performance eval time - we, the PMs were going over the overall evals re: bonuses).
In any case, we had a lovely chat and hope that next time she's in DC, she'll have more time.
This weekend, I'll be signing books at Borders in Warrenton, VA - my first solo signing! Wish me luck!
