It's sneeting today. Snow/Sleet = sneet

Not fun. Not pretty. Not in the least.

I can't remember why I ever thought I liked snow. As a concept, it will do just fine, but in today's reality, it totally sucks. Supposed to get more snow accumulation overnight, which basically craps out my plan to attend the Sisters in Crime holiday bash at Mystery Loves Company in B'more tomorrow. ::sigh::

However, I will still be able to make it to the yearly Luminati LOTR viewing bash. Our own version of Trilogy Tuesday, except we'll be watching The Hobbit (animated); FOTR and TTT (extended versions). Homemade stew, bread and cheese will add to the hobbity fare. Yum!

And of course, there be Pirates at home, too. :) Sounds like Sunday will be quite fun...no matter the weather.

Dances with Swords

Some wonderfully insightful, if negative reviews of the latest Tom Cruise epic by Stephen Hunter and Desson Thomson, who calls it "a white guy's politically correct lessons abroad."

I especially love Stephen Hunter's comment: "Movies set in Japanese history should not be about handsome white people. It just feels wrong and, in the end, leaves in your mouth the taste of desecration."

So not going to go see it.

IMHO, Tommy boy's trying to be Viggo (ROTK, Hidalgo...) or even Toshiro Mifune or Kurasawa - doesn't work for me. Not even close. I'd rather watch old paint peel.

Wrongness in the extreme

This is just wrong. Utterly and completely.

Theresa Chambers, Park Police Chief has been suspended. Her crime? Speaking out that she's understaffed and her people are underpaid. Why are they not up to par? Because of all the federal funds being thrown to Homeland Security.

Can we say gag order?

The PtBs say it's because she's violated a federal regulation to not speak out about budget items. Read the story in the Post
